Interested in providing invaluable and much appreciated help at your public library? Make an appointment to talk with our Volunteer Coordinator about your interests and availability. Volunteer Program Application [198 KB PDF]

Volunteers are needed to staff the Canyon Gallery during the upcoming Solstice Art Show from December 6th through the 19th. Some daytime but mainly evening and weekend hours need coverage. Please contact the volunteer office at 303-441-3114 for more information.

Homebound Delivery Program

The Homebound Delivery Program needs:

  • a volunteer to deliver books to north/central Boulder patrons on Tuesdays- volunteer will need a car for deliveries
  • volunteers for deliveries and pickups at Mesa Vista nursing home on the 3rd Wednesday and the 3rd Thursday of each month
  • volunteers for office administrative support

Reference Department

  • Assistance with Interlibrary Loans
    The Reference Department needs assistance with interlibrary loans. Duties include packaging books for returning to out-of-state libraries and some photocopying. An eye for detail is required.
  • Assistance with Maintaining Newspaper Clippings
    Assistance is also needed with maintaining newspaper clippings for Municipal Government Reference Collection. Must be able to commit to approximately 3 hours every two weeks.

Circulation Department

  • Circulation Assistance
    A volunteer is needed 1-2 hours per week to search for missing books, books in transit, and "claims returned items." Training is provided.

Children's Department

  • General Assistance:
    The Children's Department needs weekly volunteer assistance on Mondays and Tuesdays for the first three weeks of each month. Duties include making phone calls, replenishing displays, and general office support. Training is provided. For more information please call 303-441-3114 or 303-441-3099.
  • Program Assistance:
    The Children's Department needs weekly volunteer assistance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the first three weeks of each month. Duties include monitoring program spaces during drop-in play time, keeping attendance statistics, and general office support. Training is provided. Library Gift Shop

  • A volunteer is needed on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from about 9-11 a.m. to help sort donated books for our library gift shop on the bridge. Training is provided. Some lifting is involved.

Public Relations

  • Web Assistance
    A volunteer is needed to insert information about library programs into local online media calendars. For this position you can work from home during hours that suit you. Training is provided.

Outreach Program

  • Spanish/English Speaking Volunteers
    Bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteers for help in occasional translation and interpretation.
  • Conversations in English
    Accepting volunteers who would like to substitute or teach a class.
  • Citizenship Class
    A volunteer is also needed to serve as a backup instructor at our Citizenship Class (Mondays, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the main library).
  • General Office Assistance
    Volunteers are also needed for general office assistance a few hours per week. Computer skills are not a must.

Grillo Health Information Center

  • General Assistance
    Grillo Center volunteer staff members receive training, then help people who seek current information on health issues. Information is obtained from subscription databases of current medical textbooks and journals and other reliable medical websites, as well as library health-related reference materials.
  • Spanish Speakers for Community Outreach
    The Grillo Health Information Center also needs a volunteer who speaks Spanish to assist with community outreach once a week from 10 a.m. - noon. Training is provided. For more information please call 303-441-3114.

Maria Rogers Oral History Program (Carnegie Local History Archive)

  • Database Assistance
    Volunteer needed to transfer oral histories from tape to computer files and to enter information about the oral histories in an Access database for online oral history site. Must be comfortable with video camera and computer equipment, and with using text and database computer programs. Training provided. Can listen to oral histories while doing this work.
