The
Carnegie Branch Library for Local History is an archive that
houses over 200,000 photographs of Boulder and Boulder County. Our
mission is to preserve and protect these images while making the
accessible to researchers.
Because the photographs are old and irreplaceable,
nothing may be borrowed or taken from the library. In order to
keep this unique collection in control, we do not allow patrons to
scan or photograph our photographs. We do allow photographs to be
copied on our photocopier as well as to be professionally
reproduced at a local photo lab.
We recognize that being able to obtain copies of
photographs is a useful service, and have a system in place
whereby this is possible. This service is available wholly at the
discretion of the staff, who determine the photo lab to be used,
the charges, any use fees, etc. These are not negotiable.
A low bid price has been negotiated at a reputable
photo lab which picks up and delivers photograph orders once a
week on Wednesday mornings between 10am and 12 pm. Returned orders
are ready to be picked up after noon on Wednesday. It takes
anywhere from one to two weeks to have a photograph copied,
depending on the day of the week on which the order is placed.
Quicker service is available at a rush order price, which is
usually (but not always) double the regular price. If a single
order is complicated or numerous, a 2-week turnaround time may
apply. Orders placed before the Christmas holiday may require a
2-week turn around time.
We
also provide a scanning service whereby photographs may either be
scanned and emailed to you, or scanned and placed on a disc. This
service is also explained on our website under the heading
"Photo Formats Explained" and you may order them using the
"Photograph Reproduction Order Form"
Any of our Boulder
Historical Society photographs being placed on websites must have
the accompanying Carnigie Branch Library for Local History digital
watermark.
Photograph reproduction price lists and order forms
and use fee forms are available on this web site.
The Carnegie Branch Library does not mark up these prices
nor make any profit from this service. A $1.00 service charge is
added to each photograph order to compensate for the time to
process each photograph prior to pick up by the patron.
Our largest and best photograph collection, numbering
in the thousands was placed on permanent loan to the Carnegie
Branch Library by the Boulder Historical Society/History Museum.
As part of fund raising efforts by this non-profit organization, a
use fee is charged for any commercial use or a photograph from
their collection. This use fee is determined by the Boulder
Historical Society and is paid to them, but mailed to us. This fee
has been set by the Board of the Boulder Historical Society and is
not negotiable.
