History:
The Meadows Branch Library,
located behind Safeway in the "Meadows on the Parkway"
shopping center at Baseline and Foothills Parkway, was opened
December 3, 1989. The space, donated by Boulder developer Jim
Loftus, was transformed into a library with $500,000 from the $14
million bond fund approved by Boulder voters in November 1987,
dedicated to the system-wide expansion of library services.
The Meadows Branch, designed by Peter Heinz in association with
Manning/Knapp Architects of Boulder, follows the concept of a
"bookstore", to blend in with the shopping center
atmosphere. The interior features a large children's area with a
"Play House Wall" and unusual seating designed to
accommodate children and their parents for reading and story hour.
Computers for Patrons: There are eleven computers throughout the Meadows Branch for patron use.
Seven of these have access to the Internet, the library catalog, and
many wonderful databases.
An
additional computer is dedicated for catalog use only, while another
computer is dedicated to word processing use only (but also has
access to the Internet and our databases).*
Children's Computers: Two computers, located in the children's area,
are dedicated for
children's use with many fun and interesting children's programs
with a parent's manual available. One children's computer is
intended for younger children with games and stories. The other
children's computer is intended for older elementary children and
has access to children's databases.
*Note
about the Meadows Word Processor: Word processing documents may be
sent to the printer or saved to the patron's diskette.
(Diskettes may be available for purchase -- see a librarian for
details.) We ask that patrons limit their time to 60
minutes. |
Adult and Children's Collection: The Meadows Branch has a current collection of adult and
children's books, and periodicals available, as well as non-print
media items such as video tapes, compact discs, audiotapes and more.
The current circulation is 150,000. The size of the Meadows
collection is approximately 34,000.
Meeting Room: There is a meeting room for use by non profit groups. The meeting
room holds 80 and is also used for library programs. This room must
be reserved.
Meadows Programs: Look for information about Meadows Programs, Exhibits and
Displays on the Library Calendar.
